Rebekah Kim hosted this rotating monthly event at her apartment in Midtown West. Ten residents, four attendings, and one office manager attended this gathering. Worship inspired all those present and was followed by sharing testimonies of how God has been faithful in our lives. We ended with prayer and eating Peking duck sandwiches, rice crepes, salad, brownies, and cheesecake. Thank you, Rebekah, for hosting and for leading such wonderful worship! The Executive Council met on Thursday, August 7. The meeting was presided by Drs. Ali Ko (NYC area director), Randy Owen (President), James Avery (Vice-President), Jennifer Jao (Secretary), and Mark Travin (Treasurer). Also attending were Dr. Fredric Lee (dentist representative), Dr. Jane Owen (hostess with the mostest), and Dr. Ako Sabetah (medical student adviser).

Brandi Marsh organized this inaugural event that was held at Bryant Park Cafe and Grill. MD/PhD candidates from Albert Einstein, SUNY-Downstate, Mt. Sinai, and Columbia participated. They have committed to meet monthly, share prayer requests, and encourage one another in preparation towards and during their research phase. Please contact the NYC Area Director if you would like to be added to the mailing list. Dr. Zhang of SUNY-Downstate has graciously agreed to mentor the group, but in his words, he prefers to be known simply as a brother in Christ. Kudos to Brandi for organizing!

Nitya Abraham held a fruitful meeting for residents at her home at which food, drink, and prayer provided. NYU, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, Cornell, Mt. Sinai, and Kessler were represented with the following specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, PM&R, Otolaryngology, Dermatology, and Urology. Interesting topics such as how to incorporate your faith into your work, our most difficult consults, and how Jesus resembled a typical resident were discussed. This is actually the second birth for CMDAnyc.org - the very first incarnation was 4 years ago, when I was a bored fourth year med student looking for something creative to do. Being inspired by another Christian med student who programmed Chicago area’s website, I purchased the domain and started creating the website in the middle of the night. The vision at the time was to be more than just a web portal but an online community where Christian physicians, dentists and students of the greater NYC area could encourage one another, share testimonies and communicate effectively to build up the Body of Christ. more…
