Intermed Picnic - Sat, Oct 4, 2008

Sep 28, 2008 @ 03:00 pm by GregT

Approximately 60 students and 3 attendings from Columbia, Cornell, Mount Sinai, New York COM, New York Medical College (NYMC), New York University (NYU), Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ), Sophie Davis, SUNY-Downstate, and Touro COM, attended this gathering held in Riverbank State Park. We were blessed by a brisk but sunny October day. Worship was led by a couple students and then David Chen from RWJ helped break the ice by having everyone introduce themselves and then have us spray each other with silly string! After grace was said by Dr. Ako Tabetah, a picnic lunch was served. Group photos of those attending were taken and those present broke off to fellowship with each other. Dr. Ali Ko offered spiritual support to the students as well as opportunities to meet with Christian Attendings.

Discussions with Dr. Harold Paul Adolph - Oct 2, 2008

Sep 28, 2008 @ 10:00 am by GregT

Elijah Kim helped set up this talk with Dr. Harold Paul Adolph. Dr. Adolph spoke at Surgery Grand Rounds at Beth Israel on October 2, 2008 at 8 am and then with InterMed at 7 pm at NYU School of Medicine. He spoke about how God has answered his prayers during his career as a missionary doctor and surgeon, spending time in areas as diverse as Taiwan, Bangladesh, Niger, and Ethiopia. Students from Albert Einstein, Columbia, Mt. Sinai, and NYU attended this event to hear the words of this career missionary. He encouraged all those who are led to missions work and advised those interested to seek a residency with a broad experience. Please look at the website of the hospital in Ethiopia that he help build - www.soddo.org and how surgeons in this country may spend their time training local physicians overseas - www.paacs.net

NYCOM Fellowship Luncheon - Sep 17, 2008

Sep 19, 2008 @ 01:19 pm by GregT

Albert Lee had this to say about the September 17th fellowship luncheon:

Praise the Lord for giving us a great start for the year! First general meeting of NYCOM CMDA was a great success. About ten new members came to the meeting and worshiped God with us. We spent some time introducing CMDA to students, sharing our vision, and talking about upcoming events.
We prayed together, sang praises together, and had fellowship. It was very exciting and it’s more exciting to think of what God is going to do this year!

Medical Missions Fundraiser - Sep 26, 2008

Sep 14, 2008 @ 10:00 pm by GregT

This fundraiser was a roaring success with about 70 people attending in support of a medical missions to Haiti, organized by MedMissions. All present were treated to a dinner of Haitian food and to four hours of rocking music and worship!!

Led by medical students from Downstate, Mark Saintjour and Adeline Abraham, the missions trip will be going from December 26 - Jan 2 this year. So far the list of those students going (from the greater NYC medical schools) includes:
Mark & Adeline, Jeanette Tse, Moeun Sun, Terry Kay, Benjamin Lok, Brandon Hayes, Sophia Morriseau, Sarah Jones, Sharon Daniel, Keith Chu, William Freed-Pastor, Victor Nivar, Sam Mathews, Winnifred Lamarre, Charles Esenwa, and Ashley Treece (from California), as are Drs. Gardy Valentin, Gates (from Texas) with his wife and daughter, and the founder of MedMissions, Dr. Brent Hambrick. Twelve physicians in Haiti will also be traveling with the group as local contacts and mentors.

The fundraiser was held at NYU School of Medicine in room SLH E. We would like to thank all those who performed that night for donating their time and energy and for rocking the place for four hours! God bless Ted Ferenczy, Cate Song, Steve Brown, DMP & One Accord, Lighthouse, members of Crossroad Tabernacle, The David Metayer Creole Project, Denny Simon and John Seale, and Sophia’s father, Mr. Morriseau. Of course, several of the students who are going to Haiti participated in organizing the event, but a special shout-out must be given to Elijah Kim who played the part of a hapless nonbeliever.

Money is tight for this group of warm-hearted individuals who seek to administer to the poor and spread the Gospel in Haiti. Checks can be made out to MedMissions; you may contact Marc at marc.saintjour(at)downstate.edu or Terry at terryjkay(at)gmail.com as to where to send your gifts. Medications can also be donated. See here for a list of medications that are being requested. Chloroquine 250 mg for anti-malaria prophylaxis is also wanted.
