healthcare students from around the greater New York City for a brief retreat on December 4-5 at NYMC in Westchester. More information about the retreat and registration is below. We hope to see you there!

FOCUS:
“Jesus answered them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’” (Luke 5:31-32)

Evangelism is a critical component of God’s mission in our lives. As students of the health professions, we face unique challenges in following Christ, as well as unique opportunities to engage in ‘missions.’ Join us as we consider what this means to us individually and corporately, both in the context of global missions and within the domestic concerns of our daily lives as students in the New York City area.

GUEST SPEAKERS:
Introduction: Scott Boyles, MDiv (CMDA Northeast Regional Director)
Plenary sessions: Stephen Ko, MD, MPH (pediatrician and student at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary)
Workshop leaders: David Kim, MD, and more to be announced, including a special dental workshop.

InterMed – Fall Regional Meeting

Things we will be discussing at the meeting:
1) Updates on your school fellowship
2) Fall picnic
3) Annual retreat
4) Monthly Intermed events

Things to do:

1) Make sure your school’s fellowship is represented at the meeting!
2) Be prepared to talk about plans for your school’s fellowship for the coming semester.
3) Bring the academic calendars for 1^st and 2^nd years at your school so we can select dates for our big events.

Held at Uris Auditorium at Weill Cornell Medical School, the 2009 Senior Commissioning Ceremony involved about one hundred medical students, residents, attendings, and guests.  Congratulations to all the fourth-years who now are heading to a new chapter in their lives!  Photos of the event can be found here.

What: Trip to the world renowned Bronx Zoo
When: Saturday Oct. 25th from 1 pm – 4 pm (or whenever you want to be there) The zoo is open from 10am – 5:30 pm and admission is $15.
Why: bc people don’t realize that the bronx offers more than J-Lo and Dunkin’ Donuts

If everyone could please try to get there around 1 pm, then we can randomly split up the different schools into different groups so that peoples can get to know one another instead of clumping together in your school fellowships. Plan on eating lunch beforehand and perhaps we can arrange dinner options at local restaurants for those who are interested.

Approximately 60 students and 3 attendings from Columbia, Cornell, Mount Sinai, New York COM, New York Medical College (NYMC), New York University (NYU), Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ), Sophie Davis, SUNY-Downstate, and Touro COM, attended this gathering held in Riverbank State Park. We were blessed by a brisk but sunny October day. Worship was led by a couple students and then David Chen from RWJ helped break the ice by having everyone introduce themselves and then have us spray each other with silly string! After grace was said by Dr. Ako Tabetah, a picnic lunch was served. Group photos of those attending were taken and those present broke off to fellowship with each other. Dr. Ali Ko offered spiritual support to the students as well as opportunities to meet with Christian Attendings.

Vinitha Jacob says:

Dr. Katherine Grimm (voluntary faculty in Pediatrics), whom many of you met on Wednesday, has graciously offered to host a dinner for the Sinai and Cornell fellowships on Saturday, September 27th at 5pm. It will be at her home on Roosevelt Island. Unfortunately, I will be away that weekend and won’t be able to attend, but I do encourage you all to go if you can. Please RSVP directly to her at 212.751.4737 (kteetsgrimm@gmail.com).

Because of the white coat ceremony on Monday, September 15th, the next fellowship gathering will be Monday, September 22nd. Please meet at 8 pm in the student lounge conference room. Fellowship meetings will meet at 8 pm on Mondays on a regular basis- three meetings a month will be Bible study with some refreshments and the fourth meeting will consist of a dinner or something special.
