From Alfredo Ok:
It’s time for the annual Intermed retreat! Join other Christian medical/dental/
healthcare students from around the greater New York City for a brief retreat on December 4-5 at NYMC in Westchester. More information about the retreat and registration is below. We hope to see you there!
In Christ,
-the 2009-2010 Intermed Retreat Team
FOCUS:
“Jesus answered them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’” (Luke 5:31-32)
Evangelism is a critical component of God’s mission in our lives. As students of the health professions, we face unique challenges in following Christ, as well as unique opportunities to engage in ‘missions.’ Join us as we consider what this means to us individually and corporately, both in the context of global missions and within the domestic concerns of our daily lives as students in the New York City area.
GUEST SPEAKERS:
Introduction: Scott Boyles, MDiv (CMDA Northeast Regional Director)
Plenary sessions: Stephen Ko, MD, MPH (pediatrician and student at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary)
Workshop leaders: David Kim, MD, and more to be announced, including a special dental workshop.
DETAILS:
What: Large-group worship and messages, small-group sharing and devotionals, games and fellowship
Where: New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY (directions to follow, upon registration)
Date: Friday, December 4 – Saturday, December 5
Cost: $20 (pay when you get there)
HOW TO REGISTER:
Registration is online:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFdabW9Sc0hjdW1jbXVYY29TTmFhMFE6MA
Please register as soon as you can, to help us plan for food and lodging — our deadline is Friday, November 27, 2009.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all doing extremely well! This month is my b’day and since I have a midterm the day after it (i.e., won’t be able to celebrate on it), I’ve decided that the entire month is my b’day and will take every opportunity to celebrate it. So, at our next meeting, desert is a must! Let’s meet next week Thursday 4/9/09 at 7pm. Let me know if another day next week is better for you. Location will be announced sometime this weekend. If anyone would like to host this one, let me know!
Blessings,
Brandi

Held at Uris Auditorium at Weill Cornell Medical School, the 2009 Senior Commissioning Ceremony involved about one hundred medical students, residents, attendings, and guests. Congratulations to all the fourth-years who now are heading to a new chapter in their lives! Photos of the event can be found here.

Theme: You Can Do It!: The Reality of Following Christ as a Healthcare Professional
Speaker: Dr. James Avery (Bio)
Why: Because it’s an opportunity to escape from your busy lifestyles and spend time with God, have fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ, and to learn more about being a Christian healthcare professional. Plus, Sandy Cove is beautiful and you’ll have lots of fun!

One last note!
This year we are trying to arrange a chartered bus to and from the retreat. This bus will make it easier to travel for everyone and it’s also a great opportunity for fellowship! Please sign up here! Once we have an estimate of how many people are interested, we will send more information about cost, time, and location. We will then send another form to sign up, so be on the lookout for that. Please respond by December 15th so we can do all of this in a timely fashion.
Hope everyone is enjoying their break.

Hi Everyone,
I hope that all is well with you! For our last meeting of the year, let’s meet for a family style dinner in Times Square at Tony’s Di Napoli, 147 W 43rd St. between 6th and 7th Aves. Is Friday December 5th at 7:30pm good for everyone? If most people have a conflict and an alternate day suggestion, I’ll change it.
Best,
Brandi

Approximately 60 students and 3 attendings from Columbia, Cornell, Mount Sinai, New York COM, New York Medical College (NYMC), New York University (NYU), Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ), Sophie Davis, SUNY-Downstate, and Touro COM, attended this gathering held in Riverbank State Park. We were blessed by a brisk but sunny October day. Worship was led by a couple students and then David Chen from RWJ helped break the ice by having everyone introduce themselves and then have us spray each other with silly string! After grace was said by Dr. Ako Tabetah, a picnic lunch was served. Group photos of those attending were taken and those present broke off to fellowship with each other. Dr. Ali Ko offered spiritual support to the students as well as opportunities to meet with Christian Attendings.
